Mayor Sarno presented the team with proclamation declaring Thursday, March 24, 2022 as ‘Central High School Girls Basketball Day’ in the City of Springfield. He also presented each player with a mayoral citation. In addition, Mayor Sarno presented the Key to the City to the Springfield Central High School Girls Basketball Team in recognition of this tremendous achievement. This marks only the second time Mayor Sarno has recognized a high school team with the Key to the City, the first being the Central High School Football team for winning their historic D-III State Championship in 2018.
Additionally, Superintendent Daniel Warwick presented a special proclamation on behalf of the Springfield Public Schools and School Committee.
Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations to our Central High School Golden Eagles Girls Basketball Team on winning the State D-I title. We are all so proud of these young ladies both on and off the court. Superintendent Dan Warwick, Principal Tad Tokarz, Athletic Director Dwayne Early, Coach James Gee and all the coaches, teachers and staff are excited to celebrate and acknowledge these young women on their tremendous achievements. This is no small feat and I wanted to do something special for our girls’ basketball team. For only the second time in my Administrations history, I am recognizing a high school team with the Key to the City for their accomplishments and achievements – both on and off the court. Congratulations to our Central High School Golden Eagles Girls Basketball Team! Once again, you have proven that Central High School is the home of Scholars and Champions! Way to go!”
